Michael Fleisher's Encyclopedia of Comic Book Heroes is one of the great tragedies of comics fandom. Exhaustively researched, meticulously cross-referenced and wholly comprehensive, the fact that the project was never completed (There was originally to be seven volumes: Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, Captain Marvel , and three other volumes covering various Golden Age characters) depresses me to this day. Well, at least the first three volumes exist (The first two in their original format, the third having gone through a bit of editing to emerge at the time of the release of the first Superman movie as "The Great Superman Book"). Every character from the first thirty years of Wonder Woman's adventures in Sensation Comics and her own title are included, with plenty of black-and-white illustrations taken directly from the comics. If you are a fan of the Golden-Age Wonder Woman, this is truly a must have item...
