Amazon.com Review
Author James Redfield takes readers to the mountains of Tibet in search of the mythical place called Shambhala, otherwise known as Shangri-La. Like his previous bestselling books, Redfield holds the tension between an adventure travel story (in this book, armed Chinese soldiers doggedly pursue him) and divine encounters. Rather than preach his spiritual beliefs, Redfield likes to portray himself as a naive pilgrim, receiving wisdom and insights from the various guides and teachers he meets on his metaphysical journeys.

Shambhala is indeed a paradise, just as it was lovingly portrayed in the famous James Hilton novel Lost Horizon. It is also a spiritual utopia, and Redfield takes great pleasure in pondering the possibilities of living in a culture that is entirely "focused on the life process." Residents explain their lifestyle, which has emerged from a completely spiritual culture, including some rather sensible opinions about technology, parenting, and even genetic testing. Meanwhile, Redfield remains the wide-eyed observer. Those who loved the characters, writing style, and epiphanies in The Celestine Prophecy will not be disappointed with Redfield's latest inspirational portrait of a new world order. --Gail Hudson

Product Description
The search for the legendary Tibetan-Buddhist utopia of Shambhala begins where The Celestine Prophecy and The Tenth Insight left off. The magical place does indeed exist and is destined to be found and understood in our time. Following a childs instructions, readers cross the Himalayas and discover a mysterious community set high on a Tibetan mountain range where the spiritual future of mankind is already being lived. After overcoming Chinese interference and the tests of the mysterious Dakini, readers finally discover the secret of this idealistic way of life, and understand how it will now begin to move into the rest of the world.

5 out of 5 stars FOR ADVANCED SEEKERS- DEEP MEANINGS TO EXPLORE   December 18, 2008
Again as in his first two books Redfield is ahead of his time. As a spiritual teacher I am grateful for the insights and teachings to offer to students to back up and illuminate the experiences and information that has been coming through in our Shamanic healing and journey work for years, about ourselves and the earth in this time.
This is both timeless and timely on all levels. This book opens heart and mind to the true adventure we are experiencing on earth.
Enjoy the journey. Storytelling from all ages brought truths out through what some saw as outlandish stories. Live the lessons and you will enjoy a full life continously unfolding. The journey is the journey.
Thanks James for your offering this for us today.

1 out of 5 stars The Indiana Jones Version of Shambhala   November 24, 2008
A science fantasy tale of energy fields, psychic weapons and paranoia. The Tibetan monks in this tale talk a strange new age lingo invented by the author, who appears never to have encountered real Tibetans, Tibetan Buddhist teachings, or the Kalachakra Tantra which is the source of Shambhala teachings. I also doubt that he has ever encountered the Tibetan language, given the confusion he makes between transliteration and spoken Tibetan. If you would like to understand the relevance of Shambhala in our age, I would suggest starting with "Shambhala, the Sacred Path of the Warrior" by Trungpa. If you prefer fiction, I find James Hilton's "Lost Horizon" more inspiring.

4 out of 5 stars Great story   September 1, 2008
I enjoyed this book even more that the first 2. Lots of action and spiritual growth lessons for any one looking for ways to be more conscious and loving. It was a fun book to read but the idea that the cycle of birth and death will end is pretty far fetched for me. I also recommend A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose by Eckhart Tolle

5 out of 5 stars strengthening the vision   August 29, 2008
Wish they'd make a movie of this one, too. I watch The Celestine Prophecy movie dvd often, in various language combinations. It helps me hold the vision and soak it in deeper and deeper. SECRET OF SHAMBALA expands understanding, strengthens intention and focus, all the while giving us another exciting adventure. Check out the celestineprophecymovie website.

1 out of 5 stars 238 pages of boredom.....   March 3, 2008
I was happy that this book was given to me as I would have been a little upset if i actually paid for it. For starters what makes for a good fiction is when the author is capable of setting the scene, given the story depth and just as importantly, good character development. Unfortunately this story lacks both. The scene could have taken place in Mr. Redfields living room and it would not have made much of a difference since the reader never gets a "feel" for Tibet, "Shambhala", or its suroundings. I understand that it is in James Redfields best interest to put his "insights" into fictional form, sort of a safe zone since they lack originality and are at best a naive attempt at delivering his "message". A true evangelist for the "new age". Page 225 from the Celestine Prophecy- ""But what about money?" I asked. "I can't believe that people will voluntarily reduce there incomes." Oh we wont have to Dobson said. "The Manuscript says our income will remain stable because of the people given us money for the insights we provide." Well I think this says it all.
