Mammals Coloring Field Guide September 28, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great book with all kinds of images to examine and color. My grandson learned a lot using this book.
Bought for a friend July 18, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My friend wanted these books so I added them to my order and thought I would take a look at them and decide then if they were something we would use in our homeschool nature study. They are basically coloring books with some general field guide information. I think they are nicely done but I prefer the real field guides and actual nature with my kids and their own sketch books. I think it's better for us to draw from our own experience, literally, and improve as we work at it and mature than just staying in the lines. You would need a regular field guide in order to get the coloring right anyway.
Great field guide September 13, 2005 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have bought many field guides and petersons are the easiest to use, my wife and kids love them and get plenty of use of them.

This is a good guide to be used in conjunction with the Kays and Wilson guide (a much more recent and complete book). It has not been updated in quite some time, but the information should not be dismissed. It works, but should not be your only mammal field guide. You will be disappointed if it is.

Unfortunately this book has not been updated in over 25 years. Taxonomic changes in some groups of mammals have left this rather inadequate. The illustrations aren't bad except for sea mammals which have black and white sketches for illustrations. It may have been a decent guide when it came out, but I don't see the point in publishing a book which may not have the animal you're looking at in it! This book needs a revision.
