Some good information, but a very pro-Disney bias June 11, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book has some good information, but it feels very biased (as if it is written by the Disney people to encourage you to spend as much money as possible at Disneyland). It is worth reading, but should not be your only resource!
Great resource for a first time visit May 20, 2007 I read this before my first trip to Disneyland and I am very glad hat I did. I was very much under the impression that Disneyland was just like Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. I was pleasantly surprised. This book gave me quite a few things to look for and more than a few tips to make the most of my 5 days at the resort. I had purchased the same guide for WDW several years back and am glad that I picked up this one too.
Inaccurate, Incomplete April 10, 2007 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
Birnbaum provided incorrect prices, incorrect park hours, and incomplete information about attractions. The last time I was at Disneyland, characters wandered about with regularity. Now they are on schedules and you can expect to line up for 30 minutes to see them. Birnbaum didn't mention this. The princesses have their own attraction in Fantasyland with a schedule of appearances. Birnbaum does not mention it. Look up "characters" in the index -- it's not listed. There was no mention of Disney's Photopass service which we did not discover until far too late in the visit. They list things as "must see" which were dull, undermining their authority. The book states many of the shops sell aspirin, "just ask any cast member." I asked three and got blank stares. One told me to go to the First Aid center where they "might" have some. The book was simply not useful.
Great Resource For First-Timer April 1, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this book because I had used the Birnbaum's 2005 Walt Disney World book and loved it. The layout is very appealing, easy-to-read, and lots of pictures. It really gives you all the information you need to be prepared in a quick reference way. This will be my first time to Disneyland. I found that there is not as much info on the internet on Disneyland as there is on Disney World. This book is great for showing all the rides, restaurants, shopping, and other activities that Disneyland and Anaheim have to offer. However, if you prefer the meatier, no-nonsense travel guides, I would suggest going with the Unofficial guides (I used that one for Disney World, but have not used it for Disneyland).
