Product Description

Birnbaum's Disney guides take to the high seas with this comprehensive look at the Disney Cruise Line and all the events, activities, and ports of call to sample aboard the Wonder and the Magic. In "Before You Sail," receive advice on what to do and pack prior to your journey. Then get a deck-by-deck, cabin-by-cabin introduction to your vacation "home," as well as personal dining tips, from midday snacks to gourmet dinners. Find out the characters' favorite hangouts, and, for adults only-find out some of our little-known hideaways.

The guide also includes a chapter on Ports of Call to help you decide which tours and shore excursions to take, plus a fun-filled guide to activities for kids of all ages-tots and teens and in-betweens. Additionally, we'll show you where to massage your cares away, the best places to be after dark, how to celebrate in style whether you're just married or renewing your vows, marking a special birthday or anniversary, or just rejoicing, and the secrets to planning a successful family reunion.

This year's edition includes details on dry-dock improvements to both the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder ships-including the recently expanded Vista Spa and Salon. We've also added info on new Cruise itineraries, updates on Shore Excursions and Ports of Call, and expanded coverage of the wildly popular Pirates IN the Caribbean deck party.

3 out of 5 stars Rather Disapointed   April 11, 2008

I am entertaining the idea of taking wife and kids on the disney cruise next year so I got this book to get some info on the cruise and such. It basically is Disney advertisement. Dont get me wrong it has lots to look at and enjoy i was just hoping for more details instead. Worth looking at to get excited about doing the cruise but disapointing if you want more details

1 out of 5 stars No Useful Information   January 24, 2008
There are no "insider" tips or anything in this book. It's pretty much a watered down version of Disney's own travel brochures. Complete waste of money.

2 out of 5 stars Basically a brochure for the cruise   January 17, 2008

Nothing critical here. Basically tells you about the cruise. I was looking for recommendations and such, this thing is basically the "official" guide to the cruise. Don't buy it. Everything I learned on this I found on some good web sites about the cruise. Buy the passporter guide book.

2 out of 5 stars All the basics - but just barely   January 13, 2008

This guide covers all of the basics of DCL, but the lack of depth was surprising. Specifically, there wasn't even mention that DCL's ships frequently use alternate itineraries and sometimes leave the caribbean altogether. I was stunned at the lack deck plans. Considering their exclusive access, the "hot tips" found throughout the book were items mostly available of DCL's own website, and in fact this was true of at least 90% of the information in the book. This has resulted in a guide that leaves the reader without any critical or comparative value -- basically a great big ad for DCL. Don't misunderstand -- I love DCL, but this guide loves it a little TOO much.

On the positive side, the full color photos and inclusion of characters is great for getting our kids excited about an upcoming trip.

Additionally, the information concerning shore excursions was more in depth than the rest of the guide, and did include the editors opinions of the excursions. The discussions of the ports of call in general, however, were sadly no better than the rest of the guide.

4 out of 5 stars A good guide for your Disney Cruise   November 11, 2007

I would recommend this book for anyone new to cruising or new to the Disney Cruise experience. For me, the most valuable section are the recommendations on ports of call, particularly shore excursions. The one downfall a rating for the excursions alongside the comments would be a bit more illuminating. Overall, an excellent resource.
