I had lived in Ft Lauderdale for a number of years and I picked up so many tips on different in-the-know hot spots in Lauderdale, Miami, and the Keys --- the author cherry-picked all the best places to eat, to go out and sightsee. I also bought the book for my sister and her husband, both avid world travelers, when they were going to South Florida and they too RAVED over it! --- they thought the personal insights from the author coupled with his sense of humor made the book so much for fantastic and a great read...and one of the best guidebooks they have read

The Out Traveler Guides are great books for gay travelers and the newest edition for South Florida has a great deal of information in it. We all know that South Florida has become quite a destination for gays and this book provides you with everything you want and need to know. Paul Rubio has done a thorough job in choosing the best places to eat and to sightsee as well as to stay. Rubio's approach is personal and that makes the book even more valuable--and he has quite a sense of humor. The book is meant for the gay traveler but anyone can use it and enjoy it. Rubio gives some "off the beaten path" spots to visit and I love that. Paul Rubio knows his state and is very glad to share it with us.
This is no ordinary travel guide because it also gives a historical overview of the state from the 50's and there are also listings of the GLBT events that occur there. We get news about the culture of Florida, the music, the famous people that live there as well as shopping, transportation, gyms and spas. There are chapters about the communities of Florida and the book is both informative and witty. I felt as if I have lived in Florida for years after reading it.
This is a fine little book that can be used as a guide and a souvenir. No traveler should be without it.

A specialized travel book for visitors to South Florida, whether for business or pleasure, "The Out Traveler: South Florida" compiled and written by Paul Rubio includes the Florida Keys, Orlando, and the Tampa Bay Area, as well such major destination areas as Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach, and St. Petersburg. But "The Out Traveler: South Florida" is so much more than an ordinary travel guide as it features a historical overview of the LGBT experience in Floridal from the 1950s down to the present day; Floridian culture, music, and celebrities; as well as LGBT events, spas and gyms, transportation, and shopping. The chapters dedicated to 'where to go' and 'what to do' in the various and varied Southern Florida communities is detailed, informative, and profuse. In a handy pocket-sized and eminently portable edition, any and all LBGT travelers to Southern Florida would be well advised to utilize Paul Rubio's "The Out Traveler: South Florida" to plan their itineraries to not only get the 'biggest bang for the buck' but to acquire truly memorable experiences from their visit.

This book was informative and witty wrapped up into one. You can go from tourist to native after just a few pages. I'm someone who has lived in Miami for years and I still picked up a few insider tips about the city and state I call home. Restaurants, clubs and bar for the gay or straight traveler will just be some of the hot spots detailed in this book. Your South Florida vacation won't be the same without it.

really knows his stuff, from the history of
Florida to where to get the best Mojito...
Paul's personality really shines in his descriptions
and makes it really fun!!! Anyone comming to Florida
should have this book!!!!
