Wouldn't waste your money September 21, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I felt the need to write a review on this book....Don't waste your time or your money! I took the Biology MTEL yesterday and was horrified! I studied for months, starting with this book and finishing with an AP high school biology book. I can't tell you how many errors I found in this book including spelling, grammer and simple math equations...it began on page 1! If you have already purchased this book, do not think that any of the questions in the practice test are anything like the questions on the exam. This book will only give you an outline on what COULD be on the test but the information is not presented in such a way that will prepare you for the exam. Save your money and print out the outlines from the MTEL website. About the exam...it was 80 multiple choice and 2 essay questions. The multiple choice questions were 10 times more difficult than the questions in the XAM book. The essay questions were not too difficult, but they're different on every test. One was on succession and the other was based on 2 charts showing Oxygen consumption of animals running and humans walking and running. My test consisted mostly of biomes, population, succession, and evolution. It had very few questions on photosynthesis, cellular respiration, cells etc.... Best of luck...I know I'll need to take it again and again and again.
I passed! August 5, 2008 Some of the diagrams are a little blurry and not as straightfoward as they could be. Also, you can tell that it still needs to be edited because it would repeat paragraphs that it had just explained or spell words wrong. However, after taking the test I went back and looked at the content of the book and it's exactly what you need to study in order to pass the test. It worked for me so I would recommend it!
A good study aid July 18, 2008 This book has a lot of info. There is a rationale at the end of one of a practice test in the back of the book; which is such a help, it explains why an answer is correct and why the others cannot be correct. I do think one should make study cards from the book...it would be easier to study.

Studying for the teacher's exam can be overwhelming. This guide makes it easier to study all of the information necessary. Because it is designed to match the MA frameworks, it thoroughly explores the topics suggested by the state, and does not include anything irrelevant. This way, you know you are studying exactly what you need!
