Amazon.com Review
With its colorful coral reefs, excellent birding, and tropical temperatures, Florida remains a popular vacation spot for the ecologically minded. In this concisely detailed volume you'll become acquainted with the state's geologic origins, natural history, and diverse habitats (salt marshes, mangrove swamps, prairies, and woodlands). A field guide assists in the identification of some of the region's wildflowers, trees, fishes, amphibians, reptiles, butterflies, mammals, and birds, including the elusive manatee, three species of dolphin, and the rare snail kite. An extensive sampling of the area's best parks, preserves, beaches, forests, islands, and wildlife sanctuaries, with thorough descriptions and visitor information on 50 destinations, is also included. For instance, the section on Everglades National Park includes information on wildlife viewing possibilities, driving directions, and popular touring attractions inside the park (such as Shark Valley, where a 15-mile loop via foot, rental bike, or tram affords close views of alligators, anhingas, and wading birds). Lesser-known areas such as Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge and Withlacoochee State Forest are also featured. More than 1,300 color photographs heighten the quality of this handy compilation.

5 out of 5 stars Great book about Florida's flora and fauna.   October 24, 2008
This book has excellent pictures and information for anyone wanting to know about Florida outdoors. It's nice and compact too. I love this book!

5 out of 5 stars good source of information   August 4, 2008
I got this book to help me identify the snakes we sometimes have in our back yard and pond. It did a good job helping to identify the snakes. When I wanted more detail, I went on the internet and I knew exactly which snake I was researching. It is a good general book that teaches you the basics. It is small, so it is convenient to carry while walking or hiking.

4 out of 5 stars great book   June 28, 2008
Fantastic book covering all Florida wildlife. You don't have to get a separate bird book, tree book, fish book etc. It has all Florida wildlife in one place. A good deal.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent General Field Guide To Florida   April 28, 2008

This is an excellent field guide, with tons of color pictures, that cover lots of species of flora, fauna, birds and much more. Even though I am a Florida native, I have personally been using it for many years, and still carry it with me whenever I am outdoors. Our local Audubon chapter has also been providing it to local schools, teachers and children for many years. Highly recommend as a good, general guide to anyone interested in learning about Florida wildlife, plants and trees and much more. Co-president, Flagler Audubon Society

5 out of 5 stars Great reference book   October 25, 2007
I sent this book to my brother who just relocated to Marco Island. I happened to call him before the date I thought it would arrive and he said he had already used it. It's a great reference book to figure out what kind of critter you're seeing.
