5 out of 5 stars Great book for planning or reminiscing!   July 27, 2007
I buy just about every Disneyworld book published and I've got to say, this was well worth the money!
From year to year things at Disneyworld change, so the books capture the parks at that particular time. I add notes in some of the books after our trips and they are fun to look back at as time goes by.
We've been going to Disneyworld every year for 10 years or more and this book in particular has info that is new to me, as well as some interesting tid-bits, and tons of colorful pictures! Whether you are planning your first trip or are a seasoned Disney "Guest", you will enjoy this book.
For the new Disney "Guest" there are some great day plans to help take advantage of your time there without feeling overwhelmed. I just went back to [...]and purchased a copy for my sister-in-law who will be a first time "Guest". I think it will be helpful to her in planning and she can share the all the colorful photos with my 2 nieces in anticipation of their trip.

4 out of 5 stars Visual Beauty of the World!   July 26, 2007

I was so excited to receive my copy of this book as any book regarding Disney World turns my head immediately. While I did have some criticisms of the book, as a whole it does not disappoint.

This is a book I would highly recommend to those who are visually stimulated when it comes to their vacation planning. The photos are downright incredible and beautiful, unlike any Disney planning book I've ever seen. It's terrific to finally have a book that captures the visual essence of what Disney World really is.

The book goes into incredible detail on nearly everything, and also provides the back stories and fun facts & finds to various attractions. It makes an excellent guide for a fun scavenger hunt of sorts to veteran guests looking to add something extra to their trip. The incredible detail can also be the book's downfall, however, as I can't see myself really recommending this book to first time visitors as it completely takes away from the element of surprise. Every detail of an attraction/ride from start to finish is given, and no longer allows for a first time visitor to experience it on their own. I much prefer *some* detail rather than every single detail when it comes to that. That being said, I know there are vacationers who relish in this kind of detail and this is the *perfect* book for them.

One thing that disappointed me was the lack of such detail on the resorts. Part of the Walt Disney World experience is staying on property and yet so little information is given on the resorts, many of which have wonderful services, amenities, and excursions. There is more detail given to various animals at Animal Kingdom than there are to resorts on property, and in that aspect (since people can drop a considerable amount of money at some of the resorts), I would find myself needing to recommend other guides so that interested guests can receive the information they need.

This book even gives information on special events, something that Disney does very well. It's a great little inclusion here, since I've met so many people who don't even realize that Disney does these things...from Halloween parties to a reading on Jesus' birth, to Easter parades...people will be amazed at how Disney goes all out for these events, and this book is there to capture it all. One odd thing that stood out was the mention of Gay Days. While not a Disney sponsored event (which the book admits), it's still included in the list of Disney special events. I found its inclusion out of place, being that it's the only non-Disney sponsored event listed. A comment about teaching our children about different families is attached to the event listing and the inclusion then felt more like an agenda, rather than a mere listing of an event. The comment should have been left out in respect to people who may feel as though it's up to them to decide what to teach their children. I also feel that if no other non-Disney event was going to be listed, then Gay Days should have remained out of the book. There are other events I can think of that receive much attention, but are not Disney sponsored (such as Jersey week and Pop Warner). So it seems rather odd that the most controversial event is listed while others are omitted.

There were some inaccuracies in the book, such as a Q&A section that said The Disney Store does not take back WDW returns. That is, in fact, not true. The Disney Store DOES take back WDW returns, but the policy is a strict "within 60 days, receipt required." My reason for knowing this is because I happen to work at The Disney Store. These inaccuracies are few and far between, however, and are not a "make or break the vacation" type of thing. I also found a comment both my husband and I were uncomfortable with when it mentioned about Dads taking a liking to young women dancing around.

Perhaps some of this stuff is nitpicky, but it's simply my preference for a guide designed to reach out to ALL people regarding a family friendly destination.

The book doesn't mention if this will be a yearly publication, as already some information is out of date. I do hope that updated editions will come out every so often as it really is a visually stunning book. I'm the type of person who believes there really isn't a "one size fits all" when it comes to a Walt Disney World guide, but there are only a couple that I recommend to my guests when they are looking for information on the World. This is now the third.

Loved this book. I'm a Walt Disney World junkie and I read Walt Disney World travel guides religiously. The Complete Guide to Walt Disney World is another great addition to any Disney travellers collection. The photos are beautiful. The information is well researched. I'll definetely buy every new edition that is published.

This is an awesome guide for the rides and parks at Disney. It gives a lot of details and specifics for evrey ride and event. I like the Unofficial Guide for the hotel and preplanning information. Then I love this guide to bring to Disney, it is much lighter and easy to follow.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Guide Book I've Read Yet !!!!!!!!!!!   July 4, 2007

Being an extreme Disney fan I have purchased several guidebooks in the past. In fact my wife keeps asking me why I continue to buy them since I will not learn anything new. Well she was wrong. From the simple layout, wonderful color pictures, interesting tips about the attractions, and the breadth of the descriptions for each attraction including history, length of ride, etc. this book is fantastic. Both my daughter and I have read it cover to cover and will pick it up from time to time to read again and again. Will definitely include this in the must buy category for Disneyworld fans as a gift.
