We found this an interesting book for a first time Disney Cruiser. From the information provided we were able to decide what type of room and location of the ship that we wanted to reserve. We also purchased PassPorter's Field Guide to the Disney Cruise Line.PassPorter's Field Guide to the Disney Cruise Line and its Ports of Call (PassPorter)

My family found the Birnbaum's Disney Cruise Line book very helpful for booking our cruise. It helped us decide what shore excursions fit our family . I found the book very worth purchasing it helped to answer our questions regarding laundry service, dining options, shore excursions, and tips for things to do on board.

3 out of 5 stars Being a Cynic at heart, Birnbaum's guide seems too good to be true.   January 12, 2007

In looking for a guide book I like three things: 1) Facts about my destination so I can be an informed traveler, 2) History, background and "asides" about the destination so I can understand it, and 3) critiques and criticism so I can know what to avoid or be better prepared to deal with them.

The Birnbaum's guide is excellent on the first, "OK" on the second, and is empty on the third.

Reading the guide provides great information on the layout, structure, and programming to expect on the cruise, but it was in no way critical. To me, the book is simply a lengthy brochure, which I paid for, that is written as if produced by the Disney PR team.

I expect that there will be problems that will arise, but this guide in no way clues me into these issues and how to avoid them. It also provides no insight to the shore excursions outside of the Disney programs. In reading other guides, both on-line and books, I now know of some problems to expect (along with suggestions on how to deal with them); and in dealing with shore excursions there are defintely more, and cheaper, options to choose from.

I found this book to be a great introduction, but in no way my final resource.
